Italy: Top US dance group to perform in Rome




Rome, 14 July (AKI) - A top American modern dance group is set to perform in the Italian capital Rome this week. The Hubbard Street Dance Chicago is based in the US city of the same name and will perform on the fringes of "An Invitation to Dance" event being held at the Villa Pamphili park.

The critically-acclaimed dance group is made up of 22 artists headed by artistic director, dancer and choreographer Jim Vincent. The performers are renowned for their exuberant, athletic and innovative repertoire.

The company features dancers who display unparalleled versatility and virtuosity in performances that have inspired and entertained audiences around the world.

"In its 30 plus years, the main company has appeared in celebrated dance venues in 44 states and 19 countries," said a statement on the dance group's website.

The performance by HSDC is sponsored by the US embassy in Rome and the group will perform on Wednesday and Thursday.

The group has already performed in the southern Italian city of Caserta as well as the northern city of Ravenna.

After their performance in Rome, the dancers will travel north to the city of Bolzano for the Bolzano Danza 2009 event.

HSDC, based in the northern American city of Chicago, was founded in 1977 by choreographer Lou Conte. It is considered one of the most renowned dance institutions in the world.
