Italy: Berlusconi diagnosed with Scarlet Fever
Rome, 26 October (AKI) - Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi was on Monday diagnosed with Scarlet Fever - an infectious disease which primarily affects children - after he contracted it from his nephew.
The 73 year-old media mogul has five nephews, including Gabriele who is seven years-old, Silvio junior who is five, Alessandro and Edoardo, both two years-old. Four of them are at the typical age for potentially having the disease.
Initially, Scarlet Fever can result in high fever, sore throat and rashes among other symptoms. It is treatable with antibiotics.
Doctor Giancarlo Isaia, quoted by Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore, said people should not worry about the "possible consequences on the efficiency of our president of the council of ministers."
About 25,000 Italians are infected with Scarlet Fever each year
