Kenya: Muslim leader endorses death sentence for child molesters
last update: June 14, 18:22
Nairobi, 14 June (AKI) - A Kenyan Muslim leader says Shariah law should be applied when dealing with homosexuals, including the death penalty for those guilty of sexually abusing children.
Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa, organising secretary of the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya, told Kenyan newspaper the Daily Nation that gay Muslim business owners should be boycotted, while homosexuals who sexually abuse children must die.
“Death is the only punishment prescribed by Islam for such people as done in China and Iran," he said in the Tuesday report.
“We urge our government to consider allowing us to use such methods to deal with the dehumanising acts,” Sheikh Khalifa told reporters on the sidelines of an anti-homosexuality workshop.
Clerics attending the workshop are also demanding a crackdown on institutions that spearhead the rights of gays and lesbians in the country.
