
Iraq: Dozens killed in wave of attacks

Baghdad, 23 Feb. (AKI) - At least 48 people were killed and many injured Thursday by a wave of bomb and gun attacks in and near Baghdad, according to news reports.
Nine people were killed by a bomb attack in the vicinity of a police checkpoint in Karrada, a primarily Shia neighbourhood in the Iraqi capital, the BBC reported.
At least six people died in Kadhimiya north of Baghdad in a car-bomb attack and six police died when insurgents opened fire at a checkpoint in Baghdad's Sarafiya neighbourhood.
Nobody immediately claimed responsibility for the apparently-coordinated attacks.
