
Italy: Tremor jolts quake-hit northern Emilia-Romagna region

Rome, 19 Sept. (AKI) - A magnitude 2.2 tremor early on Wednesday hit the quake prone- northern Emilia-Romagna region but there were no reports of injuries or damage to property. Two major earthquakes in May in the region killed 26 people, left 20,000 homeless and cost its economy billions of euros and widespread damage to buildings including historic monuments.
Wednesday's quake struck at 4.33 am and its epicentre was between the provinces of Bologna and Ferrara, closer to that of the May earthquakes, according to Italy's national geophysics and volcanology instute.
The localities closest to the epicentre of Wednesday's tremor were Malalbergo, Ferrara, Poggio Renatico and Vigarano Mainarda.
The epicentres of the magnitude 6.0 earthquake of 20 May and the magnitude 5.8 quake on 29 May were the towns of Finale Emilia and San Felice located about 35 kilometres north of Bologna and 30 km northeast of Modena.
