last update: August 03, 11:15
Kabul, 3 Aug. (AKI) - Three Italian soldiers were wounded late Thursday in north western Afghanistan after their military convoy came under attack by Taliban insurgents.
Two soldiers' injuries included broken bones but were not life-threatening according to a military official. The third soldier's wounds were superficial.
"The two soldiers underwent bone-setting operations," Col. Francesco Tirino, a spokesmen for the Italian military contingent in Afghanistan told Adnkronos in an interview.
The missile and small-weapons attack on the Eighth Regiment of Caserta took place in Bala Murghab as the troops were travelling to rescue an American military unit following a traffic accident. Helicopter warships were called in to aid the Italian troops following the attack.
Forty-seven Italian troops have died in Afghanistan since the US invasion in last 2001.
