last update: June 13, 10:32
Baghdad, 13 June (AKI) - Dozens of people were killed in Baghdad and more than 100 wounded on Wednesday by car bombs that targeted Shia Muslims who gathered to recognize a holiday to mark the death of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson.
The Iraqi Interior Ministry said four parked cars detonated across Baghdad, targeting pilgrims celebrating the death of Imam Moussa Kadhim.
South of the capital, in the city of Shia city Hilla, a pair of car bombs exploded near restaurants serving a police academy, while a number of other attacks were reported in Iraq.
Attacks have decreased since American troops left Iraq in late December. But they are still numerous, mostly targeting the Shia population.
The latest incidents follow Sunday's mortar attacks on pilgrims in northwestern Baghdad's Kadhimiya Shia neighbourhood Sunday leaving at least seven people dead and 20 others wounded.
