
Italy: Tunisian savagely beaten for removing veil to cool down

Agrigento, 17 Aug. (AKI) - An Egyptian man was reported to police for allegedly savagely beating his Tunsian wife after she removed her veil amid torrid summer heat on the Italian island of Sicily.
The 20-year-old pregnant woman was rushed to a hospital in the Sicilian city of Agrigento after what witnesses described as an out-of-control violent reaction by her 19-year-old husband to her removal of her head scarf during a holiday visit to her family who live in Porto Empedocle, a small maritime town near Agrigento.
Unable to stop him, witnesses called police to intervene.
The couple live in the nothern industrial city of Turin.
Around 3 percent of overwhelmingly Catholic Italy's 60 million people are Muslim.
