Nigeria: Italian engineer kidnapped

Lagos, 31 May (AKI) - An Italian engineer has been abducted in the northern Nigerian state of Kwara while working on a road drainage project, according to local news reports.

The unnamed man was kidnapped on Monday. Nobody has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping, ZeeNews.com reported on Thursday.

"The development is devastating but the state police command has commenced investigation with the purpose of rescuing the abducted man," spokesman for the police in Kwara State, Fabode Olufemi said, while confirming the incident in the report.

State police spokesperson Fabode Olufemi told Xinhua news agency on that the Italian working with Borini Prono Construction Company was said to have gone to inspect the construction, before he was abducted by the kidnappers at about 5:30 pm local time on Monday.
