Pakistan: Thirty-nine killed in tribal region battle

Islamabad, 25 Nov. (AKI) - Thirty-five insurgents were killed and 10 wounded Friday by Pakistani soldiers in an assault in the tribal region of Kurram in the country's troubled northwest, according to security officials.

Four soldiers were also killed in the firefight, which lasted several hours. Militant sources confirmed the clashes and casualties but disputed the government’s death toll, reported the Express Tribune daily.

Separately, Pakistani security forces killed six militants in Orakzai Agency the newspaper said.
