
Syria: Kurds say they unit to fight Assad

Ankara, 12 July (AKI) - Syria's Kurds have agreed "to act in unison" to oppose the government of president Bashar al-Assad, said an official from the Syrian Kurdish National Council or SKNC.
"Kurdish groups in Syria from now on will speak with a concerted voice at the international arena and act in unison against the Assad regime. The decision to unite is a historic step for Kurds in Syria and the Syrian opposition," Shivan Hussein, SKNC's representative in Turkey, told the Turkish Anadolu Agency.
The decision to join forces came after a week of talks in northern Iraq, facilitated by by Massoud Barzani, head of the regional Kurdish administration in Iraq's north.
Kurdish rebels are active against the governments of Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran.
