last update: September 30, 16:54
Antalya, 30 Sept. (AKI) - A suspected suicide bomber blew himself up outside a paramilitary police headquarters building in the southern Turkish city of Antalya on Friday, killing himself and wounding several people, according to initial Turkish media reports.
The explosion reportedly took place in front of the Goynuk Gendarmerie Command. It was not immediately clear how many people were injured and whether there were other fatalities.
TV images showed the blast site near a paramilitary checkpoint at the entrance to the town of Goynuk on the outskirts of Antalya on Turkey's southern Mediterranean coast.
The attack may have been staged by the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK), a terrorist group known to be an offshoot of the outlawed separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), according to Turkish daily Zaman's website
Last month, the TAK threatened attacks targeting civilians and tourists, saying it would launch “all-out” attacks in response to recent military strikes targeting the PKK.
A suspected car bombing in the Turkish capital Ankara on 20 September near a neighbourhood housing government buildings killed three people and wounded 15.
Kurdish separatists, leftwing groups and Islamist militants have carried out bomb attacks in Turkish cities in the past.
