London, 22 June (AKI) - British authorities have denied a visa for the president of Syria's national olympic committee to visit London for the 2012 games.
General Mowaffak Joumaa won't be able to attend the sporting events because of his close ties with the government of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, according to the BBC.
The decision was made at a recent meeting of senior officials from the Home Office, Foreign Office and Department of Culture, Media and Sport, the BBC said.
The UK has said anybody considered not favourable to "the public good'' would not be permitted to attend London 2012 that starts on 27 July.
