Sanaa, 16 Jan. (AKI) - Insurgents have freed around 250 Al-Qaeda militants and seized a town in southeast Yemen during a raid on a prison, according reports citing local security officials.
Hundreds of Al-Qaeda rebels burst into a prison in the city of Radda, freeing the men belonging to one of the global terrorist group's most active branches.
The rebels took control of the city by creating a sort of cordon and forbidding residents from leaving their homes.
The fighting killed two soldiers guarding the prison located 160 kilometers south of Yemeni capital Sanaa.
Yemen is engaged in separate fights against Al-Qaeda, and anti-government and separatist movements.
