Hollywood stars and film viewing in the moonlight at the "Ischia global film & music fest"


Cinema and galas held at the most picturesque sites of the island

Ischia – Films under the moonlight, press conferences, seminars and galas are scheduled for the Ischia Global Film & Music Fest. The 6th edition of the event, coordinated by Pascal Vicedomini, is bringing Hollywood stars, filmmakers, producers, musicians and celebrities to the “Green Island” with events and galas scheduled at the most picturesque sites of the Island. Matt Dillon, Paul Haggis, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Claire Danes, Terrence Howard, Steven Zaillian are only some of the stars of the most “high society” events of the Fest ending on Sunday, July 20th. The locations of the Fest are splendid: Hotel Regina Isabella, Castello Aragonese, Cinema delle Vittorie and Excelsior, Giardini Poseidon, Parco Termale Castiglione, Giardini Giulia, Isola Fiorita, Hotel Manzi and San Montano.

The chairman of the long list of Hollywood stars, who will be in Ischia, is Paul Haggis, Oscar winner in 2006 for the film “Crash”. For the second consecutive year, he will preside over and coordinate the events at the Ischia Global Fest. The actress Vanessa Redgrave, the directors Bille August, Alfonso Cuaron and Carlo Gabriel Nero, the actors Terrence Howard, Michele Placido and Trudy Styler are among the main participants of the “Social Cinema Forum” of Ischia, dedicated to Human Rights. The event, promoted together with the United Nations through UNRIC, the Equal Rights Ministry, and UNICEF and sponsored by Save the Children, is presided over by the screenwriter – director Steven Zaillian, Oscar winner for the film “Schindler’s List”. The docu-film “Invisibili” by Luca Nannini produced by RaiSat Extra on the tragedy of the Thyssen Company of Turin, will be shown in the ambit of “Social Cinema Forum – Respecting Human Rights”. This film awarded the “Social Cinema Award” assigned by the International Art Academy of Ischia to productions for the silver and small screen which have significant social content. Carlo Gabriel Nero will also receive a special award for his docu-film “Wake – Up World”, which speaks about the drama of poor children in underdeveloped nations.

There are many award ceremonies scheduled: on July 20th the Italian actor Gigi Proietti and actress Lina Sastri will receive the ‘Global Film & Theater Award’. It will be given to them by the director, Terry Gilliam, honorary member of the International Art Academy of Ischia. “These two stars of our Italian stages, appreciated in the world, are receiving this award for their versatile acting skills”, said Giancarlo Carriero, president of the Promotion Committee of the 6th Ischia Global Film & Music Fest.

Besides Terry Gilliam, whose latest film is “Dr. Parnassus”, starring the late Australian actor, Heath Ledger, the two Italians will be honored by other celebrities at the Ischia Fest including Matt Dillon, Claire Danes, Vanessa Redgrave, Paul Haggis, Hugh Dancy, Freddie Highmore, Steven Zaillian, Treat Williams, Bille August, Bobby Moresco, and the Italians Michele Placido, Raoul Bova, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Nicolas Vaporidis, Martina Stella and many more. Following India, China, Russia, Germany and Brazil, this year’s guest nation will be Japan will special films, seminars and photographic exhibits regarding this oriental country realized by the Angelo Rizzoli Museum Villa Arbusto in Lacco Ameno and by the Torrione Museum in Forio d’Ischia and with the sponsorship of the Japanese Embassy of Rome and the Japanese Culture Institute of Italy.
