HIH FINDINGS SHOW RED WINE BLOCKS FLU VIRUS
Rome, May 20th (Adnkronos) –A medicine to fight the flu comes from red wine. This molecule can block the flu virus and it is called resveratrol, a natural substance, already known for its anti-stress and anticancer actions. It is found in the skin of red grapes and in other 72 plants. The antiviral capacity of resveratrol was discovered by a group of Italian researchers led by Enrico Garaci, the president of the Higher Institute of Health and professor of Microbiology at the La Sapienza University of Rome. The study was published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.

NEW ZEALAND OPENS UP TO MADE IN ITALY SALAMI AND PROSCIUTTO
Rome, May 20th (Adnkronos) – The New Zealand market is opening up to the importation of Italian salami and prosciutto on the basis of a recent revision of the country’s health and hygiene regulations. This law is not only relative to prosciutto and cooked pork products (mortadella, cotechino, boiled ham and roasts) but also cured meats which during processing have reached a pH equal or less than 5, for example as Milano salami.

MADE IN ITALY HYDROELECTRIC PLANT CONSTRUCTION BEGINS IN ETHIOPIA
Addis Ababa, May 19th (Adnkronos) – The construction of the Gilgel Gibe hydroelectric plant in Ethiopia is about to begin. The Plant will be realized thanks to a € 220 million capital investment tax credit loan financed by Italy. The construction of the energy plant was awarded to the Salini Company and start – up is expected in 3-4 years. The Italian Productive Activities Undersecretary with proxy to Foreign Trade, Adolfo Urso, currently in Addis Ababa, explained that the construction of the Plant represents an important step forward in relations between Italy and Ethiopia following the cancellation of this African country’s €342 million debt in January. The objective of the construction of this hydroelectric plant, explained Undersecretary Urso, “is to create employment in Ethiopia. This is the first tangible sign in the direction of reciprocal interests”.
ENRICO LA LOGGIA PROPOSES CREATION OF “CASA ITALIA” IN YEREVAN

MIUR UNDERSIGNS MOU WITH EGYPT AND JORDAN
Rome, May 19th (Adnkronos) – The Education, University and Research (MIUR) Minister, Letizia Moratti, this morning underwrote an important MoU in Cairo with the Advanced Education and Research Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Amr Salama, for the realization of an advanced training and research Euro Mediterranean Centre. The same type of MoU was underwritten in the afternoon by Minister Moratti in Amman with the Advanced Education and Research Minister of the Kingdom of Jordan, Kalid Touqan. ISTAT - EU EXPORTS UP 7.6% IN MARCH
Rome, May, 18th (Adnkronos) - Exports towards EU countries rose 7.6% and imports 7.5% in March 2005 with respect to the same period in 2004. The Italian trade balance demonstrated a € 211 million deficit against a €210 million deficit during March 2004. Figures were released by ISTAT this morning.

THE FIRST 'SAGRANTINO WINE BAR’ OPENS IN BERLIN, NEXT LONDON
Rome, May 17th (Adnkronos) – The Sagrantino Wine Bar will be inaugurated on May 19th in Berlin. This is the first wine bar specific to a wine and its territory. The five mayors of the Sagrantino towns in Umbria interested in the production of this DOCG wine: Montefalco, Bevagna, Gualdo Cattaneo, Castel Ritaldi and Giano dell’Umbria will be at the inauguration. THE RIGONI DI ASIAGO SPA READY TO LAND UP IN CHINA

FINMECCANICA SECOND AERMACCHI M-346 PROTOTYPE TAKES OFF
Rome, May 17th (Adnkronos) – The second M-346 prototype, the new advanced training aircraft produced by Aermacchi, today performed its first flight and took off from the Venegono airfield at 10:11 am local time piloted by the Aermacchi test flight expert, Olinto Cecconello. The 42 minute flight allowed to evaluated the performance of the new prototype and the functioning of the installed flight systems. The second M-346 model will allow the acceleration of the program covering a part of the flight-testing needed for the craft’s certification.

ITALIAN GOLD JEWELLERY EXPORTS UP 11.7% IN CHINA AND JAPAN
Milan, May 17th (Adnkronos) – What can we say about Italian gold and jewellery? They are well liked by the Chinese and Japanese say figures that demonstrate an 11% yearly increase in exports for a total value of almost €230 million. Veneto leads in the sector with 55% of the Italian jewellery exports and an annual 14% increase followed by Tuscany with a 17% national export quota and annual 7.2% increase; third and fourth places are taken by Lombardy (12%, +19.2% in 2004) and Piedmont (10%, +6.4% in 2004). Exports to China and Japan weigh more for the Veneto region with 10% of the entire amount of exports to China and Japan against a national average of 2.6%. The figures are from an elaboration by the Milan Chamber of Commerce using ISTAT 2004 statistics.
PEAK SALES FOR SLICED PARMA PROSCIUTTO PACKAGES
Parma, May 17th (Adnkronos) –Packets of sliced Parma Prosciutto [ham] continue to register peak sales closing the 2005 Q1 with a +13.6% with respect to the 2004 Q1. The companies belonging to the Parma Prosciutto Consortium sold over 236,000 kg of Prosciutto in Italy (+22.5%) and over 665,000 kg abroad (+10.8%) during the 2005 Q1. Sliced Parma Prosciutto sold in packages can be considered sales explosion: today this pre-sliced cold meat represents about 25% of the exports with over 27 million packages sold in 2004, a significant figure considering that only 4 years before this quota equalled 12.5% and that since then sales volumes have more than doubled and continue progressively to increase.
LUCIANO BENETTON SAYS INDIA AND CHINA ARE THE MARKETS OF THE FUTURE
Treviso, May 16th (Adnkronos) - “The super modern stores we opened up in India are giving excellent results; in fact, with respect to the year 2004, the year 2005 will demonstrate a 90% turnover growth rate (from 800,000 items sold to about 1.5 million). CONFERENCE ON THE ART RESTORATION OF RUSSIAN CITIES BEGINS TOMORROW IN PALERMO

BUONGIORNO VITAMINIC UNDERSIGNS ALLIANCE WITH MITSUI
Milan, May 16th (Adnkronos) – ‘Buongiorno Vitaminic’ and the Mitsui Group have formed an alliance which has the Japanese multinational company buying out 19.9% of ‘Buongiorno USA Inc’. for $8.2 million USD. ‘Buongiorno USA Inc’. was constituted in the beginning of this current year and this agreement aims at expanding the ‘Buongiorno Vitaminic’ business model in Russia, India, Thailand, Indonesia and China.
BASICNET UNDERSIGNS LICENSING AGREEMENT FOR INDIA AND MIDDLE EAST
Milan, May 16th (Adnkronos) – The Turin-based company Basicnet has underwritten a 5-year licensing agreement with Lmg International to develop the sale of the ‘Kappa’ and ‘Robe di Kappa’ brand names in India, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Jordan. The minimum guaranteed sales during the period are estimated at $24 million USD in India and $58 million USD in the Middle East countries.
SOCOTHERM AWARDED 50 MILLION USD CONTRACT IN BRAZIL
Milan, May 16th (Adnkronos) – The Socotherm Group has been awarded a $50 million USD contract in Brazil through its South American subsidiary, Socoril do Brasil, to supply the anticorrosion coatings for the Gasene Project (Gasoducto Sudeste Nordeste), a 1,300 km gas line constructed by Petrobas, the Brazilian National Oil Company. Work will begin at the end of 2005 and for the entire first six months of 2006 in the Pindamonhangaba plant in the State of San Paulo. Socotherm is a company from Vicenza operating in pipe coating services for the oil, gas and water industries.
TREVI 2005 Q1 GROSS PROFITS MULTIPLIED BY THREE
Milan, May 16th (Adnkronos) – The Trevi Group saw its 2005 Q1 results multiplied by three with the consolidated EBIT at €3.9 million, more than three times the €1.1 million during the 2004 Q1. Proceeds were up to €84.9 million (+17%) while the gross operating margin was down €7.9 million against the 8.2 million in the 2004 Q1 however the net operating margin registered at €3.5 million against the €2.7 million in the 2004 Q1. The Group from Cesena, active in the underground engineering and oil, water and gas drilling machinery sector, has been awarded various contracts in the Persian Gulf area for a total value of about $25 million USD.
