A 55-year-old woman suffered first degree burns to her face and risks permanent damage to her eyesight after a man threw acid in her face in Livorno in central Italy late on Sunday.
The 30-year-old man attacked the woman in a gaming parlour where she worked for allegedly preventing him having a relationship with one of the woman's female work colleagues.
The man fled on foot from the scene of the attack but was arrested soon afterwards near his home in the port city.
The woman was taken to the local emergency room where doctors said she would take at least 25 days to recover from her injuries.
The victim and her 38-year-old colleague had reported the man to police several times over the past year for threats and stalking after he developed an unrequited love interest in the younger woman.
There have been a number of acid attacks in various regions of Italy, involving both women and men as victims.
