Italy's Eni and Croatia's national oil company INA on Tuesday agreed to jointly study the feasibility of a gas interconnection between the two countries - an initiative that if developed will help consolidate Eni's position as a European gas hub, the energy giant said in a statement.
The bilateral cooperation accord aims to leverage existing offshore gas production infrastructure, which has previously been used for activities in the Adriatic, to also transport gas between the two countries, said the statement.
"The interconnector will increase the degree of integration, security of supply, competitiveness and sustainability of the Croatian market, as well as of the Italian market, as the infrastructure will be able to operate reverse flows," the statement said.
