Interior minister Marco Minniti on Wednesday in Rome met with the new United States ambassador to Italy, Lewis M. Eisenberg, the ministry said in a statement.
During their meeting at the interior ministry, Minniti and Eisenberg both agreed on the importance of continuous security cooperation, the statement said.
Minniti and Eisenberg also underlined their countries' shared commitment to fighting international terrorism and human trafficking, the statement concluded.
Eisenberg presented his credentials to Italian president Sergio Mattarella at Rome's Quirinale Palace on 4 October.
