Representatives from Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Libya, Malta, Niger, Spain, Sudan, The Netherlands and Tunisia, as well as the European Union's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini will attend a migration meeting in Rome on 6 February, the Italian foreign ministry said on Thursday.
'A Shared Responsibility for a Common Goal: Solidarity and Security' will take place at the foreign ministry and is the brainchild of Italy's foreign affairs minister Angelino Alfano, who will open the conference .
"It is based on an enhanced partnership between European countries and African transit countries to achieve integrated management of the migration phenomenon, capable of uniting solidarity and security," Alfano stated.
Mogherini, the director-general of the United Nations migration agency the International Organisation for Migration, William Lacy Swing, and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe's secretary-general Thomas Greminger are among speakers at the event.
Alfano will make the concluding remarks at the meeting, which will be followed by a press conference, the foreign ministry said.
