Italy's far-right League party on Wednesday signalled that it expected a rapid go-ahead from Italy's president Sergio Mattarella for their populist coalition after over 11 weeks of political deadlock since inconclusive March elections.
"The League is satisfied by Conte's summons from the president of the republic. We are ready to get going," it said in a short statement.
The statement referred to a meeting later on Wednesday between Mattarella and the planned coalition government's candidate premier Giuseppe Conte.
Mattarella's summons came as the the Five-Star Movement, the League's senior coalition partner pressured Mattarella to back Conte - despite European Union and investor jitters at the euroscepticism and expansionary economic policies of the nascent populist government.
League leader Matteo Salvini convened his League party's MPs and Senators at the Italian parliament on Wednesday to discuss the political situation after earlier meeting Five-Star chief Luigi Di Maio.
