Italy's president Sergio Mattarella has approved Alfonso Maria Dastis Quecedo as Spain's new ambassador, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
A career diplomat, Dastis was Spain's foreign minister from 2016 until 1 June this year. He previously served as Spain's permanent representative to the European Union and as his country's ambassador to the Netherlands.
