A tax amnesty will be an "essential" feature of the Italian government's 2019 budget, as will a basic citizen's income, a flat tax and reversals to planned increases in the retirement age, populist premier Giuseppe Conte said on Wednesday.
"A tax amnesty will be essential. And a basic citizen's income, flat tax and reforms to the (2011) Fornero (pensions) law will also be key elements," Conte told daily La Verita.
"We will launch these reforms immediately but there will be a mechanism to implement them gradually."
Only taxpayers who owe up to 1 million euros to Italy’s tax agency will be eligible for a tax amnesty under discussion in Italy, finance undersecretary Bitonci told Corriere della Sera newspaper on Sunday.
