There are over one million Romanians living in Italy, the majority of whom are law-abiding individuals, interior minister Matteo Salvini said on Tuesday during a visit to Romania.
"The Romanian community in Italy numbers more than a million people," Salvini told reporters in Bucharest after a meeting with his Romanian counterpart Carmen Daniela Dan.
"The many cannot be blamed for the mistakes of the few," he said, referring to crimes committed by Romanians in Italy.
Salvini backed meetings between Italy and Romania's interior and justice ministries "on the situation of the prisons and prisoners," calling the proposal "a positive idea".
