Faith is a divine gift and not something we learn by reading books, Pope Francis said on Thursday.
"Faith is gift given you by the Lord," Francis said during a sermon at the Vatican's Santa Marta hotel, where he lived since his election as pontiff in March 2013.
"You don't learn it from books," he stated.
But God asks us to give our faith, Francis said.
"When we pray to Him and invoke his help with faith, that can move mountains," he said.
God will give us whatever we ask him for in our prayers, if we do so with faith, Francis said, recalling the teachings of Jesus.
"Our faith is our victory," he concluded.
