An attack by fighters from the Lebanese Shia Hezbollah movement killed three Islamic militant commanders in Syria's western Qalamoun border region, the party's Al-Manar TV reported.
The Al-Qaeda affiliated Nusra Front commander in the town of al-Juba, the leader of the as-Suqur al-Muhammadiyya Brigade and the commander of the Ras al-Maarra Operation all died in mortar attack, Al-Manar said on Twitter.
A day earlier, a Hezbollah ambush on a Nusra convoy killed at least 15 fighters on the outskirts of the strategic Lebanese border enclave of Tfail, Lebanon's Daily Star newspaper quoted a security source as saying.
A Hezbollah field military commander in his 70’s, Toufic Najjar, was also killed in Tuesday's fighting, according to The Daily Star’s sources.
Another fighter was killed on Monday during clashes that erupted when Nusra launched a series of brazen attacks on Hezbollah and Syrian Army positions in the region.
A coalition of Islamist groups operating in Qalamoun on Tuesday announced the formation of the 'Army of Conquest - Qalamoun' and said they had received support from “most” Syrian rebel groups in the area.
