Two men and a 15-year-old boy were killed on Friday in Sicily when their car drove into a lay-by on the Palermo-Mazara del Vallo A29 highway at speed and crashed into a parked lorry. The truck driver was unharmed.
Paramedics were unable to save the victims, who died at the scene of the accident. A fourth passenger, a 68-year-old woman travelling aboard the Fiat Punto car, was hospitalised in a critical condition.
Highway police were due to examine security camera footage to try and pinpoint the precise cause of the crash.
