A village guard was killed two soldiers were injured by a roadside bomb allegedly planted by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in southeastern Turkey exploded on Friday, the private Dogan News Agency has reported.

The homemade device was allegedly detonated by PKK militants during the passage of a military vehicle on the Sırnak-Cizre highway, Dogan said.

The wounded soldiers were taken to Sırnak State Hospital by ambulance, Dogan reported without stating their condition.

The Sırnak-Cizre highway was closed due to the explosion.

The PKK, designated as a "terrorist group" by Turkey and its western allies, has waged a bloody campaign against the Turkish state since it took up arms in 1984 for self-rule in the Kurdish majority southeast.

Since then the conflict between the Turkish state and the PKK has claimed more than 40,000 lives.
