Italy's anti-immigrant Northern League party leader Matteo Salvini on Wednesday called for an African migrant accused of abducting and raping an Italian woman to be chemically castrated and deported.
"He's been arrested, but that's not enough. He should be chemically castrated and expelled from Italy," Salvini wrote on Facebook.
He was referring to a 25-Nigerian man who allegedly shut a 62-year-old female worker inside a room at the asylum centre near Naples where he was staying and sexually assaulted her.
The man was arrested after another woman at the asylum centre found the door to the room where the alleged attack was taking place locked and called police.
The alleged attack took place at a hotel in the town of Giugliano in the Campania region that is being used to house migrants and asylum seekers.
