The Saudi interior ministry on Friday has named the terrorism suspect killed by police in eastern Qatif province as Mustafa Ali Abdullah al-Madad, satellite news channel Al-Al-Arabiya reports.
Madad was wanted by Saudi authorities for his involvement in terror crimes in the eastern governorate of Qatif that had targeted civilians and security forces, Al-Arabiya cited a ministry security spokesman as saying.
Madad was shot dead in a firefight on Thursday in which a policeman was injured after he began shooting at security forces and refused to surrender, according to the spokesman.
Thursday's shooting came days after a police officer was killed in Qatif by an unknown assailant, according to the interior ministry.
At least nine police have been shot dead since 2014 in and around Qatif.
The predominantly Shia, oil-rich region has been the scene of sporadic protests by Shia residents.
