A Romanian has been extradited to Italy after his arrest in Germany for the 2004 murder of an 87-year-old pensioner in the northern city Comerio, police said on Wednesday.
Police arrested Sinauschi Vasile, 47, in the southern German city of Unterdietfurt on an international arrest warrant after Italian police tracked him down him from his Facebook page, local daily Varese Today reported.
Incredibly, Vasile had registered for Facebook using his real name and had posted a photo of himself to his profile, police said. At the time of his arrest he was living in Unterdietfurt with his partner and other Romanians and working as a cook.
Vasile is accused of bludgeoning to death Carlo Ossola with a bill hook on 10 September, 2010 after he refused to hand over cash when Vasile and another Romanian man burgled the pensioner's home.
The second Romanian, Nastase Vasile, 36, was convicted of Ossola's murder and is currently serving a life sentence after police arrested him in 2004.
