An court on Monday jailed 47-year-old Pasquale Russo for the murder of his former girlfriend, a mother of three whom he set alight in the central Italian city of Lucca last year after their brief relationship had ended.
The court in Lucca also ordered Russo to pay 249,000 euros in damages to his victim, Vania Vannucchi's parents and children.
Vannucchi, a 46-year-old nurse died in hospital hours after suffering burns to 90 percent of her body in the attack on 2 August in the grounds of a hospital after he lured her there on a pretext.
Vannucci and Russo were former colleagues who had a friendship that may have briefly become physical but had stopped seeing one another more than a year before her murder.
Vannucci told friends she had become afraid of Russo, a former medical cooperative worker who did not accept the end of their relationship and kept calling her and messaging her.
