A Nigerian, a Cote d'Ivorian and a Senegalese citizen were held on Monday and eight were injured during a riot at a migrant reception centre in the southern Italian city of Bari.
The three Africans arrested face charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a public official.
Among the injured was a police officer, whose nose was broken.
Several other migrants staying at the shelter were reported to police for stone throwing.
