Italian found stabbed to death in London

The Italian Consulate in London is assisting British police probing the death of 23-year-old Pietro Sanna, who was found dead in a flat with knife wounds, Italy's foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The Consulate is in close contact with the Foreign Ministry and the family of the young man who was stabbed in London to offer every possible assistance," the Italian foreign ministry said in a statement.

"It is cooperating with the British authorities investigating the case," the statement added.

Sanna's body was found on Monday by his older brother, who raised the alarm and his parents were due to travel to London from their home in the Sardinian city of Nuoro.

One line of enquiry is that Sanna's fatal stabbing took place during a burglary.

Sanna, whose parents own two hotels in Sardinia moved to London in 2015, where his 27-year-old brother Giovanni was working as a waiter.

The brothers shared a flat in central London and Sanna had found a job at a department store in the British capital.

Sanna's murder comes after a 20-year-old Egyptian-Italian immigrant to the UK, Hosam Ali Eisa, was stabbed to death in a car park in Romford, southeast England, in May by a group of youths.
