A total of 111,514 migrants and refugees entered Europe by sea this year through 19 July - 85 percent of whom landed in Italy - while 2,360 perished in the Mediterranean as the crisis continues, the United Nations said on Friday.
This year's arrivals compares with 244,722 arrivals across the region through 16 July 2016, the International Organisation for Migration said.
The death-toll this year was lower than the figure of 2,997 through 19 July 2016, IOM reported.
A total of 93,369 boat migrants reached Italy this year compared with 82,602 over the same period of 2016, IOM figures showed.
A total of 11,122 people were rescued in Libyan waters so far this year - almost the same number during the same period of 2016 - and 349 corpses were recovered, IOM said.
Migrant deaths in the Mediterranean have exceeded 2,350 over the period for the fourth consecutive year, according to IOM.
Mediterranean migrant deaths this year made up almost three quarters of the global total of 3,269 through 19 July, IOM stated.
