Pope Francis on Wednesday urged Catholics to emulate St Francis of Assisi and live their lives "in simplicity and joy".
"Like Saint Francis of Assisi, let us be transformed by the love of Christ in order to live in simplicity and joy," Francis tweeted.
His nine-language @pontifex account has close to 34 million followers, the Twitter-tracking group Twiplomacy reported in August.
October 4 is observed by many churches as the feast of St Francis of Assisi, a 12th-century Italian monk who is the patron saint of animals and the favourite saint of Pope Francis.
