Foreign minister Angelino Alfano on Wednesday expressed "satisfaction" at Italy's establishment of the Permanent Observatory on Peacekeeping, a joint initiative of the foreign ministry and defence ministries, the foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
The Permanent Observatory on Peacekeeping is further testimony of "Italy’s unrelenting attention for peacekeeping missions", the foreign ministry said.
The Observatory was announced at the opening ceremony of the academic year at The Italian Centre for Advanced Defence Studies (CASD), the ministry stated.
It falls within the scope of Italy’s mandate this year as non-permanent member of the Security Council and is "a tangible long-term result" in an area in which Italy has been traditionally engaged, as it contributes to peacekeeping financially and deploys personnel to crisis zones, the ministry added.
The Observatory will organise seminars and host in-depth debates, studies and research and intends to develop "an integrated sectorial approach to the complex issues associated with peacekeeping and the stabilisation processes in areas of crisis," the ministry said.
