Five Tunisians living in Turin who received arrest warrants for allegedly setting up a terror cell linked to the Islamic State jihadist group cannot be held in custody and have ten days to lodge an appeal with Italy's supreme court against the arrest warrants, an appeals court ruled on Thursday.
Prosecutors had asked for the Tunisians to be arrested on international terrorism charges and held in prison pending charges, a request rejected by a court of first instance but upheld by the appeals court.
The Tunisians cannot be arrested until Italy's Supreme Court of Cassation passes a judgement on the appeal which the Tunisians may lodge with the apex court by 26 November.
Three of the suspects are currently under house arrest on drugs offences while the other two are at large, according to Italian media reports.
