Security issues forced Libyan officials to close the border crossing with Tunisia at the northernmost town of Ras Ajdir, hours after it was re-opened, the Libya Observer reported on Tuesday, citing local sources.
Ras Ajdir's security director and security services chiefs on the Libyan side agreed to close the border following information that Libyan citizens were still being prevented from travelling to cities in northern Tunisia and were being harassed by Tunisian smugglers, the paper quoted the sources as saying.
The border crossing will remain closed pending a meeting between Ras Ajdir officals and Libya's interior ministry to discuss security developments in the area, the paper reported.
Tunisian smugglers closed the road to the coastal town of Ben Gardane in protest against the Libyan authorities for preventing them from smuggling fuel and subsidised goods from Libya to Tunisia, the Libya Observer said.
