Italy's ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Perrone on Monday condemned the deadly assault by gunmen on the National Oil Corporation's headquarters in Tripoli, calling it "a vile, despicable act".
"Today’s terrorist attack against the HQ of a key pillar of Libya’s economy is a vile, despicable act," Perrone tweeted.
"It will not deter all Libyans of goodwill from moving forward towards peace and reconciliation," the tweet added, sending condolences for the victims.
The United Nations mission in Libya also condemned Monday's assault, which left four people dead including two NOC staff members and injured 10.
It was not immediately clear who carried out the attack but initial indications showed the gunmen were from the Islamic State jihadist group, according to Libya's interior ministry.
IS took credit for an attack on Libya's national election commission offices in Tripoli in May in which at least 12 people died.
