Eni was on Monday recognised as United Nations Global Compact LEAD, demonstrating the company’s ongoing commitment to the UN’s corporate sustainability initiative, Italy's oil and gas giant said in a statement.
The decision was announced at UN Headquarters in New York during the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2018, Eni said
“Today’s decision is a recognition of Eni’s continued efforts on sustainability, which is an integral part of each of our businesses,” Eni's chief executive officer Claudio Descalzi said.
The UN Global Compact is a leadership platform for the development, implementation and disclosure of responsible corporate practices.
Launched in 2000, it is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 9,000 companies and 3,000 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries and nearly 70 local networks.
The Global Compact invites companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
