Clearwater Seafoods Expands European Arctic Surfclam Product Offerings With Sushi-Ready Slices

Clearwater Seafoods announced today the launch of its 100% natural and wild-caught Arctic Surfclams in pre-cut and portioned sushi-ready slices to the European marketplace. Clearwater will showcase this new and convenient, ready-to-use clam format at Seafood Expo Global (SEG) taking place April 25-27 in Brussels, Belgium.

Sustainably harvested from the cold waters of the North Atlantic off of Canada's East Coast, Arctic Surfclams (Mactromeris polynyma) are blanched and individually quick frozen (IQF) onboard Clearwater's state-of-the-art factory vessels within an hour of harvesting. After arriving at Clearwater's processing facility, clams are sorted, size graded and rigorously quality control tested before being sliced in half and packed. The Arctic Surfclam fishery is Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified, the world's gold standard in third-party independent certifications for sustainable fisheries. Clearwater is the main global provider of Arctic Surfclams.

Arctic Surfclams are widely popular in Asian cuisines within Japan and China, where they are known as hokkigai and bei gei bei respectively. They're prized globally for their sweet taste, unique texture and vibrant red tongues. Clearwater's Arctic Surfclams are pre-blanched, making them ready-to-consume once thawed. Simply place a sushi-ready slice on rice or serve on its own sashimi style for the ultimate in convenience. This new Surfclam format, in addition to Clearwater's existing one kilogram IQF offering, provides two Arctic Surfclam product options for today's foodservice operators.
