BRUSSELS, October 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

Achieving Sustained Excellence

In 2014, many organisations may say they understand the concepts of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability, but can they really demonstrate the integration of these concepts into the way they work?  When the EFQM Excellence Model was first issued in 1992, the inclusion of a criterion called "Impact on Society" caused the most discussion. Still today, a majority of organisations struggle in demonstrating their commitment. As an answer, EFQM designed a new type of assessment named EFQM Committed to Sustainability.

EFQM Committed to Sustainability has been designed to provide a holistic 1 day assessment of an organisation's sustainability strategy. The assessment explores 4 themes; People, Planet, Profit and Products. With the integration of the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact into the assessment framework, an organisation going through the EFQM Committed to Sustainability will not only gain feedback on the impact and effectiveness of its sustainable strategy but also earn the "EFQM Committed to Sustainability" recognition.

Committed to Sustainability

On 20thOctober 2014, at the EFQM Forum in Brussels, Georg Kell, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, recognised the first 3 organisations to achieve EFQM Committed to Sustainability; Ricoh Belgium, Robert Bosch Rodez Plant and Royal Philips NV.

Georg Kell commented: "EFQM has played a critical role in the development of the Global Compact. Our partnership, formed a decade ago, introduced us to the continuous performance model, which inspired the Global Compact's Communications on Progress (COP) methodology. As the business and society agenda has evolved significantly over the past decade, a stronger collaboration between the two organisations promises to build a healthier balance between businesses, citizens and the planet."

Marc Amblard, EFQM Chief Executive Officer, added: "Social responsibility has always been at the heart of the EFQM Excellence Model. Our new Committed to Excellence assessment is another milestone in our long-term partnership with the UN Global Compact. Together we can support support organisations on their journey towards sustainable excellence."
