DORTMUND, Germany, February 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
- Common-Use standard
At this year's Passenger Terminal Expo (PTE) from 10 to 12 March in Paris aviation specialist Materna will showcase self bag drop systems with a brand new kiosk payment feature. Visitors at Passenger Terminal Expo will be able to see live demonstrations of the latest Common-Use self bag drop version with different types of kiosks and scanning modules at stand 3050.
One of the most future-oriented topics for airlines and airports right now is automated baggage drop-off. Materna has enhanced its aviation solutions and has now integrated all the features a modern bag drop system needs in order to provide passengers with the best possible service. Today, there is more and more demand to have a payment function. If they have excess baggage, passengers need to pay an excess baggage fee calculated according to specific airline rules. Materna has integrated a payment service for this in its solution for airlines and airports. This means passengers are now able to use credit cards to pay the excess baggage fee directly at the self bag drop kiosk or via a mobile payment device handled by a floorwalker.
Gatwick Airport is the first airport worldwide to introduce kiosk payment for self bag drop systems so as to simplify baggage check-in for its customers. Materna recently has been awarded the contract for this and will install 50 systems at Gatwick Airport starting in April 2015.
Materna's self bag drop system comes with an intuitive graphical user interface so that passengers can drop off their luggage very quickly and easily. Its solution is based on the IATA CUSS standard and also supports the new CUWS definition (Common Use Web Services). Visitors at PTE will be able to test this service for themselves.
