SHANGHAI, May 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- UnionPay cards are bringing cardholders rewarding experience and value-added services in culture, art and many other fields. Starting from June 1, holders of UnionPay cards (card number starting with 62) can visit The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, for free by presenting their UnionPay cards, UnionPay International announced on May 25.

The Metropolitan Museum is the latest of the many prestigious museums that offer UnionPay cardholders with exclusive privileges.

From June 1, 2015 to May 31, 2016, UnionPay cardholders can get one free pass (The Museum's recommended admission price is $25) at the Museum's admissions desks by presenting their UnionPay credit card and valid ID. The Museum, located at 82nd Street & Fifth Avenue, is one of the world's leading art museums, with a collection spanning more than 5,000 years of world culture. Visitors may also use their UnionPay cards for other amenities throughout the Museum, including additional admissions.

As one of the most popular tourist destinations in New York, the Museum welcomed more than 6.2 million visitors last year, with tourists from China comprising the largest group of foreign visitors. UnionPay is not only the preferred payment brand for outbound Chinese tourists, but is also gaining popularity among consumers in Asia and other regions.

"UnionPay is working with the world's top three museums to provide UnionPay cardholders with free admissions or information services, such as souvenirs and Chinese guide maps," said Chen Zhi, Vice Chairman of China UnionPay. "UnionPay is dedicated to expanding its partnership in the fields of culture, arts and sports, in order to provide its cardholders with more value-added services, as well as to gain popularity among overseas merchants."

"We are excited to welcome UnionPay cardholders to the Metropolitan Museum," said Thomas P. Campbell, the Director and CEO of the Metropolitan Museum. "The Met has Chinese-language guide books, maps, and audio guides ready to offer, and we hope that these amenities, along with the Museum's stunning collection and dozens of exhibitions each year, will provide an unforgettable experience for UnionPay cardholders."

Currently, over 80% of merchants in the US accept UnionPay cards. Cardholders can make signature-based payment with UnionPay credit cards, or PIN-based payment with UnionPay debit cards with PIN pad. UnionPay cards are also accepted by over 90% of ATMs in the US.
