Phone talks on Wednesday between premier Mario Draghi and Russia's president Vladimir Putin centred on the crisis in Taliban controlled Afghanistan and the summit which G20 president Italy is hosting on 30-31 October.
"Prime Minister Draghi had a phone conversation today with Russian Federation President, Vladimir Putin," said a statement from Draghi's office.
"The two leaders discussed the situation in Afghanistan and the preparation of the G20 (Leaders') Summit, which will be held in Rome at the end of October," the statement.
