Nations must joint forces to prevent Taliban-controlled Afghanistan becoming a new hotbed for terrorist groups that threaten international security, Italy's foreign minister Luigi Di Maio stated on Wednesday.
Afghanistan cannot become fertile terrain once again for terrorism and a threat to global security," Di Maio said.
Di Maio was addressing a virtual inter-ministerial meeting co-chaired by United States secretary of state Antony Blinken and Germany's foreign minister Heiko Maas.
"We must ensure that the Taliban respect their commitment to stopping terrorist groups operating in their country," Di Maio added.
Preventing Taliban-controlled Afghanistan becoming an international terrorism stronghold once again will require cooperation by the international community, Di Maio underlined.
"The Global Coalition against Daesh could offer a platform to discuss any action to be taken in future," Di Mao stated.
Di Maio was referring to the 83-member coalition created in 2014 to defeat the Islamic State jihadist group worldwide.
