Over 600 Italian companies are operating in the United Arab Emirates and the value of annual bilateral trade with Italy has topped six billion euros, premier Giuseppe Conte wrote on Facebook during a visit to Abu Dhabi Thursday.
"Our community is sizeable as there are 16,000 Italians living and working here - in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other emirates," Conte added in his Facebook post.
Referring to a delegation of Italian business people he met in Abu Dhabi, Conte wrote: "They are men and women who help generate wealth for our country, create jobs and strengthen our economy."
After his meeting with the Italian business delegation, Conte was due to hold talks with Abu Dhabi's crown prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed at the presidential palace.
Sheikh Mohammed is special advisor to his older brother, Abu Dhabi's ailing Emir and UAE president Khalifa bin Zayed, and is Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE's Armed Forces and head of the Abu Dhabi council for economic development.
