Israeli chemist Ovadia Lev will on Thursday collect a prestigious new award, 'The Rita Levi Montalcini for scientific cooperation between Italy and Israel Prize' at a ceremony in Rome, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Lev, who is a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, will give a lecture entitled 'Advanced novel analytical methods for faster forensic and medical analysis' during Thursday's award ceremony at the foreign ministry, the statement said.
Foreign undersecretary of state Manlio di Stefano and deputy minister of education, universities and research minister Lorenzo Fioramonti will open the ceremony, while Fabio Rugge, Rector of the University of Pavia will make its concluding remarks.
The event will be moderated by Vincenzo De Luca, the foreign ministry's general manager for the promotion of the Italian economy, according to the statement.
The award, which aims to strengthen scientific collaboration between Italy and Israel, is supported by the foreign ministry and by the CRUI Foundation for Italian Universities in cooperation with the education ministry.
As winner of the award, Lev will undertake teaching and research period at the University of Milan's Department of Chemistry, where he will work with its team of researchers headed by Luigi Falciola, said the statement.
The prize takes its name from late Italian neurobiologist Rita Levi Montalcini, who won the 1986 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine jointly with colleague Stanley Cohen for the discovery of nerve growth factor.
