Italy deplored the deadly terrorist assault by gunmen at an upscale hotel in the Afghan capital at the weekend, foreign minister Angelino Alfano said on Monday.
"Italy forcefully condemns the terrorist attack at the Hotel Intercontinental in Kabul," Alfano tweeted.
"We strongly opposed violence and terrorism and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims' families and the injured."
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack by gunmen on the hotel overnight on Saturday that officials said killed 19 and injured many more. The death-toll is more likely dozens, local media reported, citing security sources.
The assault was the latest in a long series of attacks which have underlined the city’s precarious security situation and the continuing ability of insurgents to mount high profile operations in the Afghan capital.
